About Us

Our Focus

We at EcoVentures are focused on providing our customers with a truly memorable "wildlife encounter".

We want to share with you the splendid scenery and wildlife we are lucky to have here in the North of Scotland by giving you the opportunity to visit the sealife in their natural habitat, on their own terms.

EcoVentures is committed to providing you with the best possible experience whilst ensuring the long term sustainability of our local marine environment. By minimising our impact on the wildlife around us, we hope that it will continue to thrive and be enjoyed by all for years to come.

EcoVentures is an accredited operator both with the WiSe Scheme and the Dolphin Space Programme - a local, voluntary code of conduct designed to safeguard the welfare and future of the cetaceans in the Moray Firth. The details of the code and how and why we approach the wildlife the way we do will be explained in more detail during your trip.

Whilst we do our best to minimise our impacts on the environment around us through careful management and operating practices, and also utilising fuel efficient technology we are aware that we are still a good way off being ‘carbon neutral’. To try and redress this we now offset by investing annually in renewable energy and energy efficiency projects.

Here's a little bit about us at EcoVentures

Sarah Owner/ Skipper

Having been around boats since childhood I originally trained and qualified as a Naval Architect and Small Craft Engineer, however have always felt somewhat happier actually on the sea than behind a drawing board!

My interest in cetaceans and wildlife tourism began during University and continued thereafter when I worked seasonally as a Skipper and guide for local firm Dolphin Ecosse. This gave me the opportunity off season to explore some wilder waters and I spent several winters crewing yachts to places such as Antarctica, South Georgia, the Falklands, Brazil, and Tierra del Fuego.

Back home in Scotland I then spent 3 years skippering for Scotland's first and only five star tour boat operator, Bella Jane Boat Trips, before returning to Cromarty to work for the Aberdeen University Lighthouse Field Station research team in 2004.

Born and brought up within a few miles of Cromarty I have always wanted to establish a business close to home. In 2005 that opportunity presented itself and EcoVentures was launched.

Robyn Marketing and Business Development

Born and brought up on a farm in New Zealand, I spent several years working in the ecommerce and marketing departments of several companies across New Zealand and Australia. Seeking some adventure, I then moved to the UK around 18 months ago. I spent the first 10 months of my time here living and working in London for a telecommunications company before making the move to Scotland.

I love the outdoors and find Scotland a great place to enjoy lots of outdoor activities. I have always enjoyed sailing and being on the water. And being involved in the running of EcoVentures is certainly good for that!

I've been lucky enough to travel to some exciting places since being in the UK, including Egypt and Turkey, Switzerland, Denmark, Italy, Croatia, Greece and an eventful journey in a VW van through Bosnia, Serbia and Kosovo!

We look forward to welcoming you to EcoVentures in Cromarty.
