Meet the Team

SarahSarah

Having been around boats since childhood Sarah originally trained and qualified as a Naval Architect and Small Craft Engineer, however she has always felt happier actually on the sea rather than behind a drawing board!

Her interest in cetaceans and wildlife tourism began when she worked seasonally as a skipper for local firm Dolphin Ecosse. This gave her the opportunity off season to explore some much wilder waters and she spent several winters crewing yachts to places such as Antarctica, South Georgia, the Falklands, Brazil, New Zealand and Tierra del Fuego. These long ocean crossings gave her not only plenty of cetacean encounters but also some time to think about what opportunities lay closer to home.

After skippering for Isle of Skye based, Bella Jane Boat Trips, Sarah returned to Cromarty to work for the Aberdeen University Lighthouse Field Station research team in 2004 before going on to start EcoVentures soon thereafter.  She says, ‘Being born and brought up within a few miles of Cromarty I’d always wanted to establish a business close to home, and if possible to do something outdoors that I enjoy. EcoVentures has allowed me to fulfill both those ambitions and I couldn’t be happier.

Nicki

Nicki joined our team in 2019 and is most likely to answer the phone and reply to your email. Most of Nicki’s work is behind the scenes making sure that the EcoVentures shore base runs smoothly. Nicki’s background is varied, having run her own craft business and worked in many offices, shops and cafes. She has a keen interest in wildlife, local plants and fungi. She loves making all crafts, watch out for some of her creations in the gift shop! Originally from Edinburgh, she is now proud to call Cromarty home.

We all look forward very much to welcoming you to EcoVentures.
